Foodie Files: Talapia Wontons

My first foodie files post featuring my cooking has finally made it to the blog! I'm so excited to share with you one of my current favorite dishes to cook that is quick, easy and of course delicious. My cousin introduced me to wonton tacos, a dish she discovered on pinterest (ofcourse) and I instantly fell in love. After trying it with the traditional taco recipe I decided to switch it up a bit with one of my favorites, talapia. If you're a seafood lover this dish is definitely for you. If not, it can definitely be adjusted to your desired taste.

New Additions

I can remember a time when I wasn't big on accessories. All I needed was a pair of stud earrings and the occasional necklace or bracelet. Times have definitely changed, I now swoon over a great statement piece and I'm always on the hunt for something timeless that I can wear at any age. These new additions have given me that and more.

I had the joy of working with Meghna Patel, creator of Meghna Designs and not only did I fall in love with her story but her jewelry was equally amazing. So, when I was finally able to get my hands on her pieces happy, excited, thrilled, in love, all were an understatement. From the intricate detailing to the bold stones I was captivated. I can't wait to style these pieces and share the looks here with you!

P.S - Meghna Designs is currently on kickstarter with hopes of raising money to help with its first fine jewelry line launch. Check it out and let me know what great pieces you choose!

Foodie Files - Sunda New Asian Restaurant

I chatted a bit about my love for cooking in my last post so I'm excited to share my first Foodie (Files) post! These posts will feature either my cooking or a restaurant I've tried and loved. So, here we go.

The BF and I headed to Sunda New Asian here in Chicago to celebrate our anniversary and after the experience I had to praise him for making such a great decision. The food was incredible and I tried a couple of dishes I usually would cringe at. I went in with the saying from one of my favorite shows Bizarre Foods in mind. " If it looks good, eat it."  A sista is expanding her palate and pretty excited to bring you all along on the ride.

What 2013 Taught Me

If a perfect night doesn't include wine, cake, and a GIRLS marathon then I don't know what I'm experiencing right now.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas behind us and the new year being days away it's officially time to reflect on the year that was 2013. I have learned so much this year which was full of amazing ups and not so amazing downs. Another year of experiencing the woos of post college life when shit doesn't go as planned (I think that's officially the first time I've cursed on my blog). But you know, in life sh** happens and when it gives you grapes I say just drink a big glass of wine and keep pushing.

I've been trying to live the whole "happiness is a choice" motto and there has been plenty of days where it has come in handy. Choosing happiness forces me to reflect on my blessing and to just take every experience as a lesson learned. 2013 has definitely schooled a sista and I thought I'd share what I took away from it all.

The Best Of BEYONCE

Have you recovered yet? From the flawlessness that is BeyoncĂ©? If you haven't, I don't blame you because I'm still processing what happened myself. Just when I started to give up on the possibility of an album this year, the queen delivered in the only way she can. Like most of us I got the news through social media. I  was on my way to bed and decided to scroll through Instagram one last time when someone posted them buying the album. I was not prepared.

When I tell you, I was up until 5am listening to the music, watching the videos, and enjoying all of the commentary about it online. Not ashamed. I gave myself some time before I blogged about it to fully grasp what happened that night and determine how I feel about the album. To no surprise, I love it! Not only do I love it but I think it's her best work yet. A while ago my boyfriend asked if I felt she had a iconic album and I said, no. If he asked me that now the answer would undoubtedly be yes. I'm so proud of the body of work she has delivered with this album and feel it is the most authentic to who she is and the direction she wants to take her music. I mean, every single song pure artistry. With that said, I gave myself the difficult task of narrowing down my favorites so, here they are.

Favorite Songs:

Pretty hurts - I relate to this song because like all women I've felt the pressure of societies standards of beauty and the more I've fought against it the more beautiful I feel.
Drunk in love - Honeyyyyyyy! The way she delivers this song vocally alone is enough for me but who doesn't want to feel like this while in love? And for the first time in my life I can listen to a love song and relate on another level.
Superpower - Oh, Frank. I just love that man. Lyrically I believe he is amazing and I love how his voice blends so well with Beyonce's. Anyone else wish he had a verse?
